Philips, B. Braun Obtain FDA Clearance for Needle-Tip Tracker

Philips and B. Braun have received 510(k) clearance from the FDA for their Onvision ultrasound guidance system for needle-tip tracking.

The system, which combines Philips’ Xperius ultrasound technology and B. Braun’s Stimuplex Onvision needles, is designed for use by anesthesiologists to accurately position needle tips inside the body, making regional anesthesia a viable alternative to general anesthesia.

The companies plan to launch the product in the U.S. in the fourth quarter of 2020.
