Boston Scientific’s Deep-Brain Stimulation System Gets CE Mark

Boston Scientific has received a CE mark for the fourth generation of its Vercise Genus deep- brain stimulation (DBS) system.

The system, which has Bluetooth capabilities and is compatible with full-body magnetic resonance imaging equipment, is indicated for treating the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia by delivering precise electrical stimulation to areas of the brain.

The device can now be implanted in the abdominal area and includes new software that optimizes programming using patient imaging. It also comes with the option of a rechargeable 25-year battery.
