FDA Clears Capnography Module for Capsule Technologies’ Vitals Plus Monitoring System

September 17, 2020

The FDA has granted 510(k) clearance for Capsule Technologies’ Vitals Plus monitoring system, allowing its use with Masimo’s NomoLine module for measuring exhaled carbon dioxide.

The system continuously monitors carbon dioxide and the respiratory rate of ventilated patients to track changes in cardiovascular and respiratory conditions, and to ensure patients are getting adequate ventilation.

Paramedics often use carbon dioxide readings to assess a patient’s respiration. The concentration of carbon dioxide in exhaled air is “an immediate indicator of ventilation and respiratory adequacy,” Capsule Technologies noted.
