Surmodics Earns FDA Clearance for Blood-Clot Retriever

The FDA has granted Surmodics 510(k) marketing clearance for its Pounce Thrombus Retrieval System, a device that captures and removes blood clots from the body.

The device is composed of a basket delivery catheter, a basket wire assembly and a trumpet assembly that enable it to catch and withdraw clots from arteries.

Thanks to its design, the retrieval system can treat arterial thrombotic occlusions without the need for surgery.
