HHS, DoD Partners with CVS, Walgreens to Administer COVID-19 Vaccine

October 20, 2020

CVS and Walgreens will administer COVID-19 vaccines to residents in long-term care facilities and nursing homes with no out-of-pocket costs, under a new contract from HHS and the Department of Defense.

The contract is part of the administration’s Operation Warp Speed initiative, which aims to accelerate access to coronavirus vaccines.

The agreement aims to ease the burden on long-term care facilities and local clinics by allowing the residents, many of whom are elderly and vulnerable to infection, to get vaccinated free of charge.

The vaccine will be distributed “earliest to those who need it most,” said HHS Secretary Alex Azar.
