California Will Independently Verify COVID-19 Vaccine

California Governor Gavin Newsom has named an 11-person scientific review panel to verify the safety of any FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine before it is distributed in the state.

California’s Acting State Public Health Officer Erica Pan predicted that a small number of doses of an FDA-approved vaccine could be deployed in the state before year’s end, but that widespread vaccine distribution likely won’t occur “for many more months.”

Last month, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said his state would not distribute an FDA-approved coronavirus vaccine until it is approved by the state’s task force of scientists, doctors and health experts.
