FDA Extends Compliance Date for Supply-Chain Verification

October 26, 2020

The FDA has extended the compliance deadline for new supply-chain verification requirements for wholesale drug distributors until Nov. 27, 2023.

The new requirements under the Drug Supply-Chain Security Act (DSCSA) were originally slated to take effect on Nov. 27, 2019, but the FDA then extended that deadline by one year. The agency has now extended the compliance date for another three years.

Until then, the FDA says it won’t take action against wholesale distributors that fail to verify a product identifier or standardized numerical label before distributing saleable returned products.
