Evgen Wins British Regulatory Approval for COVID-19 Trial

British drugmaker Evgen Pharma has won approval to start a late-stage clinical trial in the UK to evaluate its respiratory treatment, SFX-01, for COVID-19 patients.

The randomized, placebo-controlled study, led by the University of Dundee, will assess whether SFX-01 can reduce inflammation or prevent acute respiratory distress syndrome, including progressive lung damage.

The company says recruitment will begin soon for the study, which is being funded in part by LifeArc, a medical research charity, with results expected in 2021.
