NY’s AG Sets Opioid Trial for Early Next Year

October 30, 2020

New York’s State Supreme Court will begin jury selection for a state trial against multiple opioid manufacturers and distributors in January and the trial is expected to begin in February or March.

The trial, which addresses the alleged role of drug manufacturers and distributors in creating the opioid crisis, was originally scheduled to begin in January 2020 but was postponed because of the pandemic.

The state’s lawsuit names Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family; Johnson & Johnson; Endo Health Solutions; Teva Pharmaceuticals; and Allergan Finance as defendants. It also targets distributors McKesson, Cardinal Health, Amerisource Bergen Drug and the Rochester Drug Cooperative.

“We are committed to exposing the illicit conduct that took place and holding each of these companies responsible for their role in the opioid crisis,” said the state’s Attorney General Letitia James.
