Singapore to Introduce UDI Requirements for Devices

November 9, 2020

Singapore is introducing a unique device identification (UDI) system and the country’s Health Sciences Agency plans to accept UDI barcodes from the U.S. and the European Union.

The agency said it will take a phased approach to implementation, starting with high-risk implantable devices in 2022 and with lower-risk classifications following in 2024, 2026 and 2028.

The agency said it will follow the international UDI system adopted by the International Medical Device Regulators Forum. The UDI information will be published on the Singapore Medical Device Register, an online database for registered devices.
