Medtronic Buys Up Spinal Implant Firm Medicrea

Medtronic announced that it has finalized its acquisition of Medicrea, a company that specializes in predictive modeling, artificial intelligence (AI) technology and personalized spinal implants.

Medicrea has received more than 30 510(k) clearances or CE mark certifications for implant products used in spinal surgeries for adult deformity, pediatric deformity and degenerative disease, according to Medtronic.

The acquisition is Medtronic’s seventh of the year as it continues to expand into artificial intelligence, machine learning and predictive analytics. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
