Philips Teams Up with InSightec on Neurosurgical Ultrasound Tech

Philips announced that it has entered a collaboration with InSightec to develop magnetic resonance (MR)-guided ultrasound for treating essential tremor and other neurological conditions.

MR-guided ultrasound uses high-intensity sound waves guided by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to treat the part of the brain responsible for a patient’s essential tremor. The incisionless treatment is often conducted in an outpatient setting.

“By developing compatibility between Philips’ advanced MR systems and the Exablate Neuro platform from InSightec, the two companies will support expanded access to MR-guided focused ultrasound for the treatment of essential tremor and other neurological disorders,” Philips said. The firms expect to market the first products from the collaboration in 2023.
