FDA Gets More Funding for Medical Device Activities in Fiscal 2021

December 29, 2020

President Trump signed a combined fiscal 2021 appropriations and COVID-19 relief package late on Sunday that includes new funding for the FDA’s medical device activities.

Of the increased $42.25 million going to the FDA for fiscal 2021, $22 million goes toward medical product initiatives, including $3.5 million for a foreign unannounced inspection pilot program and $9 million for establishing a knowledge management system and portal.

In addition, the spending bill grants the FDA $55 million in emergency funding for developing and reviewing medical countermeasures, including vaccines, therapies and medical devices used in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
