Olympus Finalizes Acquisition of Veran Medical

Olympus has wrapped up its purchase of St. Louis, Mo.-based medical device maker Veran Medical Technologies (VMT) through its subsidiary Olympus Corporation of the Americas in a deal worth up to $340 million.

The deal expands Olympus’ respiratory products portfolio with VMT’s SPiN Thoracic Navigation System and related devices, which are designed to assist physicians in sampling peripheral pulmonary lesions in lung cancer patients.

Olympus said that the VMT purchase will make it a leader in respiratory devices. The company is focusing on three core medical device fields — gastroenterological endotherapy, urological  and respiratory.
