UK’s NICE Wants Feedback on Proposed Changes to Guidance Development

February 9, 2021

The UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is inviting public feedback on changes it proposes to make to its processes for developing guidance on drugs, medical devices, diagnostics and digital health technology.

The institute proposes to begin focusing more on “health technology management” for medical products, not just on final guidance, including “early development and advice, adoption, real- world performance and reassessment.”

The aim is to ensure that evaluations of medical products “maintain and improve upon key objectives regarding quality, dependability, speed, flexibility and cost,” said Meindert Boysen, director of NICE’s Center for Health Technology Assessment.

Comments on the proposal may be submitted until April 15.
