Molekule Gets 510(k) Clearance for Small-Sized Air Purifiers

March 10, 2021

Molekule’s Air Mini and Air Mini+ air purifiers have been granted 510(k) clearance by the FDA, clearing them for medical use to destroy airborne viruses and bacteria.

The devices use a patented Photo Electrochemical Oxidation (PECO) technology to capture inorganic particles, such as dust, and to destroy viruses and bacteria. The company noted that the devices showed they were able to destroy the RNA virus MS2 — which is harmless to humans but has many of the same features as dangerous viruses — in two hours.

The air purifiers are designed to be used in smaller spaces in healthcare environments and for medical use in the home.
