Health Canada Issues Draft Guidance on Electronic Media in Prescription Labeling

Health Canada has issued draft guidance on how drugmakers should incorporate electronic platforms, such as websites and mobile applications, in prescription drug labeling.

The Canadian regulator said that electronic information “generally cannot replace information that is required by law to appear on a drug's physical label.”

The use of any electronic media in drug labelling is, therefore, “supplementary to existing legal requirements,” Health Canada stated.

Health Canada is currently seeking feedback on the draft guidance and the consultation period is scheduled to end on May 7.
