EU Receives 107 Million Vaccine Doses in First Quarter

April 1, 2021

The EU received an estimated 107 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the first quarter, a European Commission spokesperson said yesterday — a number that is significantly lower than initial commitments by drugmakers, which included a promised 120 million from AstraZeneca alone.

AstraZeneca reportedly supplied nearly 30 million doses, while Pfizer and BioNTech supplied more than 67 million doses and Moderna delivered almost 10 million doses.

The EU expects to see a significant increase in deliveries in the second quarter, allowing it to meet its goal of vaccinating 70 percent or more of its population by July.
