Hemanext Gets European Clearance for Red Blood Cell Processing and Storage System

April 14, 2021

Hemanext has earned the CE mark for its Hemanext ONE Red Blood Cell (RBC) processing and storage system.

The device is now cleared for use in Europe for processing and storing RBCs that have been prepared and processed using the company’s Hemanext ONE system within 24 hours of collection. The device limits the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in stored RBCs, which could reduce the number of adverse events and transfusions needed, Hemanext said.

Blood centers can use the device to convert a unit of conventional, leukoreduced RBCs into a transfusion-ready unit that, based on preclinical data, offloads oxygen better than conventional blood and reduces progressive damage during storage, the company said.
