Pfizer to Deliver 20 Million More COVID-19 Vaccine Doses to U.S. by the End of May

April 15, 2021

Pfizer has accelerated COVID-19 vaccine production and is on track to distribute 300 million doses in the U.S. before the end of July, said the company’s CEO Albert Bourla.

Bourla said the company will deliver 220 million doses by the end of May instead of the promised 200 million and said it will deliver the remaining 80 million doses two weeks earlier than its initial commitment.

The U.S. government has purchased 300 million doses each from Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna, for a total of 600 million doses — which are now in greater demand as the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have recommended a pause in administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine due to reports of rare blood-clotting side effects.

More than 99 million Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine doses have been administered in the U.S., to date, according to the CDC’s vaccine tracker. — Jason Scott
