Spanish Drugmaker to Help Make J&J Vaccine by End of Quarter

April 30, 2021

Spanish drugmaker Reig Jofre will begin producing Johnson & Johnson (J&J)’s one-dose COVID-19 vaccine by the end of this quarter and will manufacture up to 250 million doses as part of a vaccine manufacturing pact the companies entered into in December 2020.

Reig Jofre said it will triple its current capacity when its new plant in Barcelona is fully operational later this year.

Deliveries of the J&J vaccine, which were recently paused as the European Medicines Agency investigated the risk of blood clots, are now resuming in Europe with a blood clot warning added to the product information.
