China Sees 35 Percent Boost in Device Adverse Events in 2020

China’s National Medical Products Administration said it has logged a total of 536,055 medical device adverse event reports in 2020, an increase of more than 35 percent from the previous year.

Of the adverse event reports received, 178,305 related to Class III medical devices, accounting for 33.3 percent of the total; 242,457 reports involved Class II medical devices, accounting for 45.2 percent of the total; and 46,995 reports involved Class I medical devices, accounting for 8.8 percent of the total reports.

Among the medical device adverse event reports received, 32,874 were for severe injuries and 218 were for fatalities.
