WHO, WTO and WIPO Pledge to Boost Access to COVID-19 Medicines

June 28, 2021

The heads of the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) have committed to expanding their efforts to provide more equitable access to COVID-19 medicines.

They have also agreed to jointly develop a platform to offer technical assistance for COVID-19 products, helping low- and middle-income countries navigate intellectual property and trade issues for COVID-19 vaccines, medicines and related technologies.

The three organizations will host a series of workshops with policymakers and member governments to work toward this goal. A workshop on technology transfers is planned for September.
