iThera Medical’s IBD Imaging System Receives CE Mark

Munich, Germany-based iThera Medical’s noninvasive imaging system for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), MSOT Acuity Echo, has earned CE mark certification.

Named after a new imaging technique — multispectral optoacoustic tomography — the device uses both laser and ultrasound to produce 2D and 3D images that help physicians assess disease-related changes in soft tissue.

The MSOT technology could also be used in research on other inflammatory illnesses, such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis and graft-vs.-host disease, iThera Medical said.
