CoorsTek Wins EU Patent Lawsuit Over Ceramic Hip Replacements

CoorsTek has won a patent lawsuit in Europe allowing it to continue manufacturing and marketing its CeraSurf-p “pink” implantable ceramic hip components.

The EU’s Trademark Court of Appeals in Paris upheld a previous court ruling in favor of CoorsTek and against the German company CeramTec, which had sued CoorsTek in 2013.

CeramTec claimed that CoorsTek’s development and marketing of CeraSurf-p for orthopedic applications violated CeramTec’s EU trademark registrations for pink-colored ceramic hip components. But CoorsTek successfully argued that the registrations were invalid.
