Medtronic’s Drug Coated Balloon Catheter Gains CE Mark

Medtronic’s Prevail drug coated balloon (DCB) catheter has earned CE mark certification and is now available in Europe.

The catheter is used during surgical procedures to treat narrowed or blocked coronary arteries, delivering the rapidly absorbed drug paclitaxel to the arterial tissue. The drug helps with treatment of lesions and in-stent blockages.

The balloon catheter is frequently used in cases where implantation of a drug-eluting stent is technically challenging.
