Baxter Issues Urgent Safety Correction for Its Spectrum IQ Pumps

Baxter International issued an urgent medical device correction notice for its Spectrum IQ infusion pumps, warning of a potential safety issue when customers change the configuration of their computer networks.

Two customers notified the company of system errors occurring in multiple pumps following changes in the configuration of their network and server systems, which resulted in the pumps sounding an alarm and shutting down. The customers were able to resolve the issue by restoring their network and server systems to previous performance levels.

The company, which previously notified customers of the safety issue on June 4 and followed with an update on Aug. 2, said it is still working on a software upgrade to fix the problem.
