Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Saliva-Based COVID-19 Test Gets EUA

October 28, 2021

Thermo Fisher Scientific has received Emergency Use Authorization from the FDA to run COVID-19 tests using saliva samples collected with its SpectrumDNA SDNA-1000 collection device.

The sample collection device works with the company’s Amplitude diagnostic platform, which enables laboratories to process up to 8,000 COVID-19 samples a day.

The saliva collection devices are self-contained systems that provide sample consistency and long-term stability. The samples can be shipped and stored at ambient temperatures with no degradation in quality, the company said.

Thermo Fisher’s SDNA saliva collection devices protect DNA and RNA transcripts postcollection to help ensure accurate test results from 2 mm of saliva.
