Philips Liver Fat Quantification Tools Cleared

Philips has received the FDA’s 510(k) clearance for its new liver fat quantification tools, which are included in the latest release of the company’s EPIQ Elite and Affiniti ultrasound systems.

Using traditional gray-scale imaging, it is very hard to assess whether fatty liver disease is mild, moderate or severe, the company said.

The quantification tools give a numerical value based on the sonograms that enables physicians to track the patient over time to assess the risk of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
