Applied BioCode Says Its COVID-19 Test Detects Omicron and Other Variants

Applied BioCode said its BioCode SARS-CoV-2 assay can detect the recently emerged Omicron variant of the pathogen.

The company said it has analyzed the publicly available sequences of the Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) and found that the BioCode SARS-CoV-2 assay can identify the variant strain.

The assay was designed with the potential for viral evolution in mind, “and as a result, we are confident that the Omicron variant will not impact the performance of our assay,” said Winston Ho, the company’s president.
