Philips Says Chemicals From Recalled Devices Won’t Cause Long-Term Health Problems

December 29, 2021

Philips said the volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) generated by the soundproofing foam in its recalled CPAP, BiPAP and mechanical ventilator devices are not “anticipated to result in long-term health consequences for patients,” based on the levels of the chemicals that have been detected so far.

The recall of millions of devices began earlier this year, leading to an FDA inspection and a warning letter from the agency.

The company said that testing for VOCs is ongoing and that “comprehensive particulate testing and analyses are now expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2022.”
