Gavi to Buy Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 Shot for COVAX Program

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is in negotiations with Bharat Biotech to purchase the Indian drugmaker’s COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, for its COVAX vaccine-sharing program.

The World Health Organization (WHO) granted Covaxin an emergency use listing in November, enabling the shot’s inclusion in the global initiative whose aim is to boost vaccinations in the developing world.

Covaxin, which is made from an inactivated form of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that induces COVID-19 infections, has been authorized by the WHO as a two-dose regimen for adults 18 years and older.
