Philips Spending $257 Million More on Respiratory Device Recall and Replacements

January 14, 2022

Philips Respironics is increasing the amount it has set aside to deal with the ongoing recall of its continuous positive airway pressure devices, bilevel positive airway pressure devices and ventilators by about $257 million.

The company has expanded the scope of the recall, which was prompted by the risks from degradation of the sound abatement foam, to include certain older devices and now expects to remediate a total of approximately 5.2 million registered devices globally.

To date, Philips Respironics has produced approximately 1.5 million repair kits and replacement devices, of which approximately 700,000 have reached customers, according to Frans van Houten, the CEO of Philips Respironics’ parent company, Royal Philips.
