FDA Adds Blood Collection Tubes to Shortage List

January 24, 2022

The FDA has added all blood specimen collection tubes to its listing of medical devices in shortage.

The latest addition expands a June 10, 2021, listing, when the FDA added sodium citrate blood specimen collection tubes to the list. The entire range of tubes now known to be in short supply bear the product codes GIM or JKA, the agency said.

The agency’s device shortage list currently includes 29 different types of products impacted by pandemic-related supply-chain issues, ranging from testing products to ventilators and personal protective equipment.
