Pfizer/BioNTech to Test Omicron-Specific Version of Their COVID-19 Vaccine

Pfizer and BioNTech have launched a trial looking at whether an adapted version of their COVID-19 vaccine is more protective against the Omicron variant than the original vaccine.

The companies aim to enroll 1,420 volunteers in the study, with initial findings available in the coming months.

It’s unclear whether such a vaccine would arrive in time to be useful, as Omicron cases are starting to drop in some areas in the U.S.
