U.S. Government Orders 50 Million Siemens COVID-19 Test Kits

The Defense Department has awarded a contract to Siemens Healthineers to supply 50 million over-the-counter COVID-19 test kits as part of President Biden’s plan to deliver 500 million free at-home COVID-19 tests to U.S. residents in response to the Omicron variant.

The federal agency procured the test kits in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response.

In December, Siemens Healthineers said that the company’s COVID-19 tests can detect the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 infection.
