Devicemakers Highlight Concerns About Semiconductor Shortage

Device manufacturers and other healthcare companies generated 18 percent of the responses to a Commerce Department survey on the semiconductor shortage last year, the department said.

This was the case even though device and diagnostic manufacturers account for less than 1 percent of the overall semiconductor chip market, noted the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), which is urging the federal government to emphasize devices in its efforts to alleviate the semiconductor shortage during the pandemic.

“Semiconductor supply chain issues are only getting worse, and that can be seen most starkly in the medical technology industry,” said AdvaMed CEO Scott Whitaker.
