Judge Upholds Martin Shkreli’s Lifetime Pharma Industry Ban

February 8, 2022

A federal judge upheld a lifetime ban forbidding former biotech CEO Martin Shkreli from ever working in the pharmaceutical industry again and an injunction against his making comments about the industry, even in blog posts.

“Shkreli’s violations of the antitrust laws have lost for him the right to speak publicly about the pharmaceutical industry when such speech is uttered to influence the management or business of a pharmaceutical company,” Cote wrote in her opinion.

Shkreli, the former head of Turing Pharmaceuticals — now Phoenixus — is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence after being convicted of an illegal scheme to raise the price of the anti-parasitic drug Daraprim by more than 4,000 percent, from $17.50 to $750 per pill, in 2015.
