Pfizer Canada Recalls Accuretic Blood Pressure Tablets

March 7, 2022

Pfizer Canada is recalling all lots of its Accuretic (quinapril hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide) blood pressure medication in 10/12.5 mg, 20/12.5 mg and 20/25 mg strengths because the products were found to contain a nitrosamine impurity (N-nitroso-quinapril) above acceptable levels.

Health Canada said that elevated levels of nitrosamine in these products could lead to an increased risk of cancer.

The Accuretic recall followed Pfizer Canada’s recall in the past week of all lots of another blood pressure drug, Inderal-LA (propranolol hydrochloride) extended-release capsules in 60 mg, 80 mg, 120 mg and 160 mg strengths, due to elevated levels of another nitrosamine, N-nitroso-propranolol.

Currently, Accuretic hasn’t been recalled in the U.S.
