FDA Issues Cybersecurity Alert for PTC’s Axeda Device Software

March 10, 2022

Computer software company PTC’s Axeda agent and desktop server software used in many medical devices have cybersecurity vulnerabilities, the FDA said, in an alert to device users and manufacturers.

The web-based technologies allow multiple people to securely view and operate the same remote desktop over the Internet.

The FDA is warning that hackers could exploit the vulnerability to take full control of the host operating system and could make “changes to the operation of the medical device and impact the availability of the remote support functionality.”

PTC is urging users to upgrade to newer versions of the software.
