Five Drugmakers Breach UK Code for Drug Promotion

March 18, 2022

The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) has cited AstraZeneca, Allergan, Britannia, GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi for violating the association’s code of practice in their product promotions.

AstraZeneca, for example, was called out for its promotion of an unlicensed vaccine, while  Allergan was placed on the list because it promoted a prescription-only drug, Botox (botulinum toxin type A), on social media.

Some of the objectionable advertisements are scheduled to be published in the British Medical Journal on March 19.

This is not the first time that ABPI has cited drugmakers for violations of its self-regulated code of standards.
