University of California San Diego-Developed COVID-19 Test Gains EUA

A test developed at the University of California San Diego’s EXCITE (Expedited COVID IdenTification Environment) laboratory has received the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization.

The test, which detects nucleic acid from the SARS-CoV-2 virus using nasal swab specimens, can be collected either by healthcare providers or can be self-collected at home.

The swab samples can be dropped off at temperature-controlled collection sites or can be transported within 36 hours at ambient temperature to the laboratory’s San Diego site for testing.
