MEPs Sue European Commission for Details of COVID-19 Vaccine Contracts

April 26, 2022

Several members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have sued the European Commission seeking the release of details of the COVID-19 vaccine contracts it inked with pharmaceutical companies on behalf of the EU’s member states.

The five Green party representatives — Margrete Auken of Denmark, Kim van Sparrentak of the Netherlands, Tilly Metz of Luxembourg, Jutta Paulus of Germany and Michèle Rivasi of France — filed their complaint with the European Court of Justice.

They argue that the heavily redacted documents released by the commission made it “impossible to understand the content of the agreements.” And they want disclosure regarding unit pricing, advance payments, donations, liability and indemnification.

The European Court of Justice interprets EU law to make sure it is applied in the same way in all EU countries and settles legal disputes between national governments and EU institutions.
