Overjet Gets FDA Clearance for Its Caries Assist Dental AI Software

Dental software company Overjet has received the FDA’s 510(k) clearance for its Caries Assist artificial intelligence (AI) software for detecting dental cavities.

The AI software analyzes X-rays to helps clinicians detect caries accurately and reduce the rate of missed lesions. In a validation study, dentists using the software were able to detect 32 percent more tooth surfaces containing cavities, the company said.

Overjet received FDA’s clearance last year for its Dental Assist software for bone level measurement in X-rays with periodontal disease. Using the two products, it is now possible “to address both bone level measurement with periodontal disease and dental caries detection,” the company said.
