Moderna to Create mRNA Manufacturing Facility in the UK

Cambridge, Mass.-based Moderna has entered into a $1.2 billion agreement in principle with the British government to establish a messenger RNA (mRNA) Innovation and Technology Center in the UK.

Moderna is developing mRNA-based products that teach the body how to make a specific protein that can help the immune system prevent or treat diseases.

The new facility will include rapid pandemic response capabilities that can be activated on an urgent basis, the company said.

Moderna is also collaborating with the UK’s National Institute for Health Research on a phase 3 study investigating the company’s bivalent Omicron-containing booster candidate.

Moderna is developing messenger RN- based vaccines for a variety of diseases.
