Becton Dickinson Recalls Intraosseous Needle Devices

June 27, 2022

Becton Dickinson announced a recall of its BD Intraosseous Needle Set Kits, BD Intraosseous Manual Driver Kits and BD Intraosseous Powered Drivers.

In certain lots of the devices, it may be hard to separate the stylet from the intraosseous needle, which could “result in delays in care due to limited or non-functioning intraosseous access or could also lead to needlestick injuries,” the company said.

Increased force to remove the stylet from the needle could result in inadvertent removal of the entire needle assembly and the needle safety mechanism on the stylet may not deploy after removal of the stylet from the needle.

In addition, metal discs intended to connect the needle assembly to the magnet in the powered driver may unexpectedly stick to the magnet, rendering the driver unusable, the company said.
