Canada to Toss 13.6 Million Expired AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccines

July 7, 2022

Canada is planning to throw out 13.6 million doses of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine because they have expired.

Health Canada said that the country made every effort to donate the doses before they expired, but couldn’t find any takers.

In 2020, Canada signed a contract with AstraZeneca for 20 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, but only 2.3 million Canadians received at least one dose of the two-dose vaccine, which was linked to an elevated risk of blood clots.

“Due to limited demand for the vaccine and recipient country challenges with distribution and absorption, they were not accepted,” Health Canada said.
