VisionHealth and Boehringer Ingelheim Ink Cooperation Deal Over Inhalation App

July 14, 2022

VisionHealth has inked a distribution deal with Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) for VisionHealth’s Kata software application, which provides support for people with chronic respiratory diseases who use inhalation devices.

The artificial intelligence-based software works by using a smartphone camera to track the patient’s inhalation, providing feedback via text and images on how well the inhalation was performed, to ensure that the right medication dose reaches the lungs.

The app, which can be used with the most common inhalation devices, “can improve the therapeutic effectiveness in about 75 percent of current marketed devices,” the companies said.

The app has gained a CE mark certification but has not yet been cleared or approved by the FDA. Financial terms of the collaboration deal were not disclosed.
