Bio-Rad Acquires Curiosity Over Rapid PCR Tools

Hercules, Calif.-based Bio-Rad Laboratories is expanding its diagnostics portfolio with the purchase of Curiosity Diagnostics from Warsaw, Poland-based Scope Fluidics.

Bio-Rad plans to develop a new generation of rapid polymerase chain reaction (PCR) diagnostic systems using Curiosity’s sample-to-answer PCR technology.

Bio-Rad aims to supply PCR systems that can be operated by near-patient molecular diagnostic laboratories rather than high complexity labs.

Bio-Rad will pay $100 million upfront and potential future payments of up to $70 million for achieving specific milestones.
