Bavarian Nordic to Outsource Its Vaccine Supply

August 19, 2022

Bavarian Nordic is in talks with other manufacturers to outsource production of its Jynneos vaccine to meet the growing demand for the monkeypox shot.

The company had initially intended to supply the vaccine from its own manufacturing plant in Denmark but is not likely to keep up with demand without outside assistance.

World Health Organization Assistant Director-General Mariângela Simão said the global agency is currently in talks with the company and other manufacturers to increase manufacturing capacity and availability.

To stretch the available doses, the FDA issued an emergency authorization on Aug. 11 that allows for a one-fifth dose to be administered beneath the top layer of the skin. But the company expressed concern, saying that the available safety data do not support the intradermal vaccination.
